Lagos: Police disburse N28 million to families of 78 dead officers

The police commissioner in Lagos, Idowu Owohunwa, on Tuesday, disbursed cheques worth N28 million to the families of 78 police officers who died in the course of duties.
While speaking with the relatives of the deceased officers at the state police command headquarters in Ikeja on Tuesday, Mr Idowu said the police were committed to the welfare of its officers.
The police commissioner sympathised with the deceased’s families and urged them to use the money to better their lives.
A deceased officer’s spouse, Gloria Odeh, said the money would be used to pay the children’s school fees and complete the building of their home.
“I feel very happy because the money will go a long way and solve a lot of problems. Right now, we have an ongoing project in the house where we live. At least this will take care of some things and pay part of my children’s school fees,” Ms Odeh said.
Another relative, Ikechukwu Desmond Kester, commended the command for the disbursement.
He said he would give the money to the mother of the deceased officer.
“It’s been a while that we have been expecting this cheque,” Mr Kester stated.
