Kano govt, PLANE train education planning officers on procurement laws

The Kano State government has trained education officers on procurement laws to promote probity and accountability in the sector.
The exercise is being implemented in collaboration between the state government and the Partnership For Learning For All in Nigeria (PLANE).
The Commissioner for Education, Ali Makoda, said this at the inauguration of a 3-day training exercise for planning officers on Saturday in Kano.
Mr Makoda said the exercise was designed to equip the participants with in-depth knowledge of procurement planning to successfully implement education development programmes.
Represented by Bashir Baffa, the ministry’s permanent secretary, Mr Makoda said the exercise aligned with the government’s drive to reinvigorate the education sector via comprehensive capacity-building programmes for effective service delivery.
“The effort is part of the present administration’s commitment to justify the recent declaration of a state of emergency on education through training and retraining of our staff to achieve effective service delivery.
“So my coming here is to see how the programme is going on and tell you that your engagement here is going to be a fruitful one,” he said.
He commended PLANE for its support and reiterated his commitment to ensuring the successful implementation of the programme.
The commissioner urged the participants to use the skills learnt to improve their performances.
The project consultant, Chukwuma Chinaka, said the participants were exposed to public financial management and the Kano State Public Procurement Law.
He said the exercise would promote compliance with the Kano education sector implementation law and education sector procurement procedure.
