The Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Micheal Oamen, urges personnel of the Nigerian Army Signals to continue in their commitment toward confronting security issues challenging the nation.

Mr Oamen made the call as the Special Guest Of Honour during the Nigerian Army Corps Of Signals West African Social Activity (WASA) 2024 held at Signals Barracks, Mile 2, Lagos State on Saturday.

The FOC said that the Nigerian Army Signal Corps had every convincing reason to celebrate as its officers and men had remained resolute in the discharge of their constitutional duties.

He said, “As we commence the 2025 activities, I employ us to be more focused and determined to continue to confront the emerging challenges confronting our dear nation. You have remained effective and reliable in maintaining combat communication in support of Nigerian Army operations.”

Mr Oamen said that in the past year, the corps’ able men and women had played a vital role in fighting insurgency and various non-state actors involved in all manner of criminalities.

“The Nigerian Army Signals corps personnel have demonstrated good resilience and high level of professionalism by maintaining a robust and efficient communication in all Nigerian Army operations.

“I acknowledge the corps’ effort at fostering synergy with other private communication agencies in enhancing command and control of the various operations they engage in,” he said.

The FOC recognised and commended the efforts of all corps personnel, particularly the Commander Corps of Signals, Maj.-Gen. Nosakhare Ugbo.

“His visionary duties and ideas to move the signals corps to its highest level is very commendable,” Mr Oamen said.

He thanked the wives and children who had gallantly and sincerely held the homefront while the officers and men were in the frontline keeping the nation safe.

“Your prayers, resilience and sacrifices are well appreciated,”Mr Oamen said.

The FOC said that WASA was to mark the conclusion of the corps training activity for the 2024.

He added that WASA was to keep the age-long tradition in the Nigerian Army and aimed at bringing the troops, their families and civilian friends to socialise in an informal setting.
