Jigawa environmental agency seizes unwholesome products worth N14 million

The Jigawa State Environmental Protection Agency (JISEPA) has seized unwholesome products worth N14.4 million in the last six months.
Its managing director, Adamu Sabo, said this in an interview with journalists on Saturday in Dutse, the state capital.
He said the seized items were consumables found to be expired, improperly stored or contaminated, and posed a danger to the environment and public health.
According to Mr Sabo, sanitary inspection is in line with the agency’s mandate to promote public health and enforce environmental safety and standards.
“It is important to note that all items were condemned after due legal procedures, and it had been verified, documented and formally approved for destruction in line with public health laws.
“The operation was legally guided by Section 5(1)(2) of the Jigawa State Environmental Protection Law 2009 (as amended), and Section 125 (1) of the Jigawa State Public Health Security Law 2024.
“This action is not punitive but preventive, meant to protect the health and safety of citizens and uphold the environmental and sanitary standards of Jigawa State,” Mr Sabo said.
He reiterated his commitment to collaborating with market associations, business operators, and communities to ensure compliance with environmental and public health laws.
The manager urged residents of the state to be vigilant, support sanitation enforcement and report illegal sales practices.
