Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman, Esmaeil Baghaei, has condemned a terrorist attack on a passenger train and the subsequent hostage-taking in Pakistan.

Mr Baghaei extended his sympathies to the government and people of Pakistan.

He reaffirmed Iran’s stance against all forms of terrorism, saying that Iran is ready to assist Pakistan in bringing terrorism to an end.

Militants launched the attack in the Kacchi district of Balochistan province.

The attack targeted the Jaffar Express train, which was carrying over 450 passengers from southwest Quetta city to northwest Peshawar.

A banned terrorist outfit, the Balochistan Liberation Army, claimed responsibility for the attack via social media.
