Jos resident sentenced to prison for stealing neighbour’s foodstuff

On Wednesday, a Jos Magistrates’ Court sentenced a 23-year-old trader, Joseph Peter, to nine months imprisonment for stealing foodstuff and a gas cooker from his neighbour’s house.
Magistrate Shawomi Bokkos sentenced Peter after pleading guilty to breaking, entering, and theft.
The judge gave the convict an option to pay N20,000 as a fine.
She also ordered the convict to pay N130,000 as compensation to the complainant.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Ijuptil Thiawur, told the court that the case was reported at the Anglo-Jos Police Station on January 11 by Ngumut Jacob, the complainant.
Thiawur said the convict also stole clothes, a laptop and a phone.
