Insecurity: Ondo LG boss suspends scavengers’ operation indefinitely

The Okitipupa local council in Ondo has indefinitely suspended the activities of scavengers and scrap metal operators.
Andrew Ogunsakin, chairman of the council, disclosed this on Wednesday in Okitipupa.
Mr Ogunsakin said he had also ordered the immediate profiling of scavengers and scrap metal operators by security agencies and community leaders in the locality.
He explained that the measure was aimed at addressing the growing security concerns posed by unregulated scavenging activities, often linked to itinerant individuals.
He noted that these activities, if left unchecked, would continue to endanger public safety and critical infrastructure in the council area.
The council boss also said that security operatives had been mandated to strictly enforce this order, as violators would be made to face the full weight of the law.
According to him, following growing security concerns, the activities of scavengers and scrap metal operators have been suspended indefinitely in Okitipupa LGA and its environs.
“I have also ordered the profiling of scavengers and scrap metal operators by security agencies and community leaders in the council area to restore order and ensure accountability.
“Security operatives have also been mandated to strictly enforce this order, as violators will face the full wrath of the law,” Mr Ogunsakin added.
He, however, urged residents of the LGA to remain calm, law-abiding, and cooperative as the administration takes firm steps to safeguard lives and property.
