Ibadan man recaptured after escaping from police custody for attempted murder

The Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, on Friday, remanded a 31-year-old man, Oluwatimileyin Mesioye, in a correctional facility in Ibadan over alleged attempted murder.
Mr Mesioye, whose address was not provided, was charged with attempted murder and unlawful escape from police custody.
The magistrate, Olasinmibo Sanusi-Zubair, did not take the plea of the defendant for lack of jurisdiction.
Ms Sanusi-Zubair directed the police to return the case file to the director of public prosecution for legal advice.
She, thereafter, adjourned the case until October 22 for mention.
The prosecutor, Insp Oladejo Balogun, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in Sept. 2023 at about 3:30 p.m. at Iroko police post, Moniya.
Mr Balogun alleged that the defendant unlawfully attempted to cause the death of a resident, Kabiru Olaniyi, by hitting him with a stick on the head.
He said the defendant also, on the same day, unlawfully escaped from the lawful custody of the police after he was charged with the offence of attempted murder.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 320 and 135 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
