German Interior Minister, Nancy Faeser, expressed her dismay on Wednesday over reports that some people in Germany celebrated Iran’s missile attack on Israel.

Ms Faeser said the scenes made her sad and angry.

Cheers reportedly broke out at a pro-Palestinian demonstration in Berlin neighbourhood on Tuesday.

Ms Faeser said there had also been spontaneous demonstrations in the small western city of Bonn.

She described the situation in the Middle East as extremely dangerous and said that Iran’s missile attacks could not be justified by anything.

Ms Faeser said she consulted with the presidents of the security authorities in Germany: “The threat level posed by Islamist, anti-Semitic and anti-Israeli acts is high.”

She spoke of an emotionalisation and radicalisation of people in the Islamist scene in Germany.

Ms Faeser also said that any support for the terrorist organisations Hamas and Hezbollah is prohibited by law in Germany.

“Propaganda for these terrorists can be consistently prosecuted, In my view, we need crystal-clear stop signs here,” she said.

She vowed that authorities would pursue any pro-Hamas or pro-Hezbollah statements made on the street as well as on the internet.

She also said that authorities were working to have online posts deemed to be Islamist propaganda quickly deleted.
