A barber, Abdul Omoshayola, was on Wednesday arraigned in a Magistrates’ Court, Dutse, Abuja, for allegedly stealing two mattresses.

Omoshayola, however, pleaded not guilty to the one count charge of stealing.

The Prosecutor, John Okpa, told the court that the complainant, Peter Ikechukwu, reported the matter at the Kubwa Police Station on September 25.

Okpa alleged that the defendant, an employee of Champion League Barber shop, Gado Nasko Road, Kubwa, allegedly stole the two mattresses and a standing fan.

He said the mattresses were valued at N130,000 and the standing fan N190,000.

He said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 287 of the Penal Code.

The Defence Counsel, Naomi Abang, urged the court to grant his client bail in liberal terms.

The Magistrate, Mohammed Abdulmumini admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500, 000 with one surety in the like sum.

The magistrate said the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

Abdulmumini ordered that the surety must provide a statement of account, utility bill, a valid identity card and one passport photograph.

He adjourned the matter until November 13 for hearing.
