Benue relocates additional 835 IDPs to mega transit camp

The Benue state government has relocated an additional 835 internally displaced persons (IDPs) from NEPA Quarters Camp to Mega Transit Camp along Makurdi-Gbajimaba road.
The executive secretary, State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), James Iorpuu, made the disclosure on Thursday in Makurdi when he visited the camp.
Mr Iorpuu said all IDPs from NEPA Quarters Camp, Baka Camp, and Ichwa Camp would be relocated to the Mega Camp for easy coordination.
The executive secretary, who was represented by Tema Ager, information officer of the agency, said over 5000 tents were already built, adding that the construction was still ongoing for more.
According to him, the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) built the tents.
Mr Iorpuu said that the camp would have all the basic amenities and institutions, such as schools, churches, markets, hospitals, water, and a security post, amongst others.
Commissioner for humanitarian affairs and disaster management, Aondowase Kunde, said the camp would provide minimum comfort for the IDPs.
Mr Kunde, who was represented by the acting permanent secretary of the ministry, Alexander Tsega, described the camp as habitable.
A 20-year-old IDP, Doom Igbawase, told journalists that she got married three years ago in IDPs and had two children and was still living there.
Ms Igbawase said that the NEPA IDP camp had no health clinic, adding that there was only one school for all the categories of children ranging from nursing to secondary.
She further appealed to the management of the camp to review the sharing formula, as the camp leaders usually take extremely more than others.
