Benue Mass Killings: Police relocate area commanders, tactical teams to Apa, Gwer LGAs

The police command in Benue has relocated area commanders and tactical teams to Apa and Gwer West LGAs following the devastating attacks on communities in the localities.
The command said this in a statement on Tuesday.
According to the command, under the leadership of police commissioner Emenari Ifeanyi, resources have been deployed to flashpoints in the state, including Apa and Gwer-West LGAs.
The command noted that no fewer than 22 persons were killed during the attacks, while five others were hospitalised.
“In the last month, personnel posted to these areas have been contending with these attackers and have suppressed them in most areas.
“Unfortunately, on June 1, these drowning bandits searched for vulnerable persons and attacked them, killing some persons in the process,” the police said.
The statement added that the commissioner assured affected communities of his resolve to fight the attackers till they submit to the rule of law.
It also stated that the police chief had deployed additional police officers to enhance security, covering up entries and exits to flashpoints, and mandated them to prevent such unprovoked attacks.
”The CP further commiserates with families and friends of the deceased,” it added.
