The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says it has deployed 620 regular and special marshals to ensure proper traffic management during Christmas and New Year celebrations in Gombe state.

The sector commander, Samson Kaura, said this in a statement on Tuesday in Gombe.

He said the measure was to ensure effective traffic control, rescue services and clearing of road obstructions, adding that the personnel would also enlighten motoring public on the need to drive cautiously to avoid road crashes.

Mr Kaura said that nine operational vehicles, one tow truck, five ambulances at three zebra points and two help areas had been mounted for prompt emergency response in the 11 local government areas.

“The FRSC has stepped up its awareness and enforcement efforts geared towards stemming the ugly tides characteristic of the season.

“This is with a view to ensuring that incidents are curtailed and where they occurred, responses could be activated urgently.

“The yuletide is often characterised with a surge in vehicular and human traffic and its attendant negative consequences have always been of concern to the FRSC and indeed the general public,” he said.

While cautioning motorists against overload, speed, and use of phones while driving, Mr Kaura urged passengers to speak up against reckless driving.
