Enugu State governor, Peter Mbah, said his administration has cleared the verified backlog of pensions and gratuities due for retirees in the state.

The governor disclosed this during his statewide broadcast to mark his one year in office on Wednesday in Enugu.

He said since his assumption of office, his administration has paid considerable attention to the twin issues of pensions and gratuities.

According to him, our senior citizens deserve their due reward when they retire, having devoted a great percentage of their lives to the state.

He said, “In doing so, however, it requires some verification exercise to digitalise the process and make the payments seamless. We have, in fact, cleared the verified backlog of their pension and gratuity. We’re also implementing e-governance technology and digitalisation in Enugu State with significant positive impacts on both the people and the economy.

“The key benefits include increased accessibility and convenience. It will also improve service delivery, transparency, and enhanced communication and feedback from the public. This would be launched in three weeks’ time.’’
