UNIPORT sets up committee to develop AI framework

The University of Port Harcourt has announced the establishment of a committee to formulate a policy framework on artificial intelligence.
Owunari Georgewill, vice-chancellor of UNIPORT, disclosed this in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.
He stated that the university was committed to harnessing the potential of AI technologies in an increasingly dynamic and technologically driven world.
According to Mr Georgewill, the committee has commenced its work, aimed at formulating a comprehensive framework for the development and deployment of AI within the university.
“The committee is working diligently to examine all aspects of artificial intelligence. At present, there is no AI policy in place in UNIPORT, nor in many other universities across Nigeria.
“Upon completion of its assignments, the committee will make recommendations on AI, which has become an integral part of everyday life,” he added.
Mr Georgewill emphasised that the committee’s recommendations would form the basis of UNIPORT’s official AI policy.
He added that the outcomes of the committee’s work would determine the strategic direction the university would take in the use and development of AI technologies.
