UN envoy hails FRSC corps marshal for making great strides in road safety

A United Nations envoy, Prof. Yusuf Suberu, has commended the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Shehu Mohammed, for his outstanding leadership in enhancing road safety in Nigeria.
Mr Suberu is a representative of Non-Governmental Organisations and Civil Society Organisations under the United Nations Decade of Action on Injury Prevention.
He made the commendation in a statement on Friday in Abuja.
According to him, the FRSC under Mr Mohammed’s leadership has achieved significant milestones, including winning the Kofi Annan Road Safety Award as Africa’s best road safety agency.
Describing Mr Mohammed’s leadership as strategic and result oriented, Mr Suberu highlighted improvements in policy implementation, technology adoption, and institutional partnerships.
He said, “The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, has strengthened the FRSC through innovation, digital transformation, and collaboration with both local and international partners. His leadership style has been instrumental in the FRSC’s recent successes, earning him national and international recognition. His vision for safer roads in Nigeria is highly commendable.”
Mr Suberu also pointed to key achievements such as the renovation of the corps’ ICT centre and the deployment of digital systems to enhance efficiency.
He encouraged continued investment in personnel training and community engagement to sustain the progress made.
Mr Suberu urged the Federal Government to increase funding for the FRSC to support its expanding operations.
He called on private sector organisations such as Dangote, Julius Berger, Glo, and MTN to contribute to national road safety efforts.
He stated, “Working together, we can reduce road crashes and build safer roads for all Nigerians.’’
