UK prime minister congratulates Tinubu

Rishi Sunak, United Kingdom prime minister, has congratulated Nigeria’s president-elect, Bola Tinubu, while assuring to work with him to boost trade ties.
The UK prime minister, in a tweet on Wednesday, said “the UK-Nigeria relationship remains strong.
“Congratulations to @officialABAT on his victory in Nigeria,” Mr Sunak said.
“I look forward to working together to grow our security and trade ties, opening up opportunities for businesses and creating prosperity in both our countries,” he added.
Earlier on Wednesday, Mr Tinubu was declared winner of Saturday’s presidential election by chairman of INEC, Mahmood Yakubu. He was given certificate of return by INEC later in the day.
Mr Tinubu polled 8,794,726 votes to defeat PDP’s Atiku Abubakar, winning 12 of 36 states of Nigeria.
Mr Abubakar came second, polling 6,984,520 votes, while Peter Obi of the Labour Party came third, polling 6,101,533 votes.
