Two suspected kidnappers nabbed in Edo

Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested one Kamsiru Abubakar and Akhor Daraman, over alleged kidnapping around Ugonoba Village in the Uhunmwode Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, Moses Yamu, in a statement on Saturday, said 20-year-old Abubakar and 28-year-old Daraman were nabbed after the police received information about their activities in the area.
The statement read, “On 05/02/2025 at about 09:45hrs, the police received credible information that suspected kidnappers were sighted around Ugonoba Village in Uhunmwode Local Government Area, Edo South. The Divisional Police Officer, leading the operatives of Operation Rescue, stormed the location. The suspected kidnappers took to their heels on sighting the police. They were chased, and the duo of Kamsiru Abubakar and Akhor Daraman were arrested. During preliminary investigation, some individuals who were victims identified the suspects to be part of the kidnappers that abducted them last year. Investigation has been expanded with a view to arresting other members of the kidnap syndicate.”
Mr Yamu said the arrest of both suspects showed that the security strategies by the Commissioner of Police, Betty Otimenyin, were yielding positive results.
Appreciating residents for their cooperation, the police commissioner assured them of improved security and sought more useful information to arrest other suspects.
