Two men in court for allegedly importing, selling fake condoms

Two men were on Friday arraigned in a Magistrates’ Court in Ikeja, Lagos State for allegedly importing fake condoms.
The police charged Emeka Daniel, 32 and Ugochukwu Eze, 35, whose addresses were not provided with three-count charge of conspiracy, forgery and perversion of justice.
They pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Prosecutor, SP Josephine Ikhayere, said the offence was committed on June 23 in the Lagos Magisterial district.
Ms Ikhayere said the defendants and others, at large imported fake Kiss condom of small and large sizes into the country.
She alleged they sold the fake condoms while undermining the damage it might cause to the users.
She also said that the defendants did pervert justice by aiding and preventing the apprehension of the co-importer and seller of the said kiss condom.
She said the offence is contrary to the provisions of Sections 97(1), 362 and 412 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.
Section 362 prescribes three years’ imprisonment for anyone found guilty of forgery.
Section 97(1) also prescribes two years imprisonment for anyone found guilty of perverting Justice.
The Magistrate, Lafeef A. Owolabi, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of ₦500,000.
He also ordered them to provide two reliable sureties in like sum.
Magistrate Owolabi adjourned the case until August 21 for mention.
