The Borno State Police Command has arrested two suspects and recovered 61 stolen mobile phones worth N35 million in Maiduguri.

The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.

Mr Daso said the command’s Crack Squad made the arrests on March 15 after receiving credible intelligence.

He identified the suspects as Ba’isa Yerima, 25, and Lawan Yusuf, 26, who were apprehended in the Polo area of Maiduguri.

He said, “The suspects specialise in purchasing stolen phones, hacking them, and bypassing security passwords before reselling them.’’

Among the recovered phones, seven were reported stolen and tracked to the suspects.

Mr Daso said both suspects confessed to the crime, adding that investigations were ongoing to recover more stolen items.

He urged members of the public who had lost phones to visit the Crack Squad for identification and possible retrieval.

The police spokesman reaffirmed the command’s commitment to public safety and security.

He also advised residents to report suspicious activities via the emergency contacts: 08068075581, 08023473293.
