Two arraigned over alleged N28 million property fraud

The police on Tuesday arraigned two men, Badmus Moruf and Onayiga Kayode, before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court for an alleged N28 million property fraud.
The men, who live within Perfect Olunloyo axis of Olorunsogo, Ibadan, Oyo State, are being tried on a five–count charge bordering on conspiracy, fraud and stealing.
The prosecutor, Sikiru Opaleye, told the court that the duo allegedly conspired to commit the act of fraud.
Mr Opaleye alleged that between December 25, 2024, and January 14, 2025, within the Olunloyo area of Ibadan, the defendants allegedly defrauded Asimiyu Gbadegesin of N25 million.
He alleged that the defendants obtained the money under the pretense of wanting to sell an old building to Mr Gbadegesin at Olorunsogo/Olunloyo Road, Ibadan.
Mr Opaleye told the court that the defendants allegedly stole the money and fraudulently converted it to personal use.
The defendants also allegedly defrauded Tirimisiyu Arogundade, obtaining N3 million from him under the pretence of selling an eight-room apartment at Adekile, Ibadan.
Mr Opaleye further alleged that the defendants stole the N3 million from Mr Arogundade and fraudulently converted it to their personal use.
However, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The defence counsel, Oritsuwa Uwawah asked for their bail in most liberal term.
The Chief Magistrate, Olabisi Ogunkanmi, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N10 million each, with two sureties each in like sum.
Ms Ogunkanmi held that one of the sureties must own a property within the court’s jurisdiction, while the other must be a blood relative of each defendant.
She, thereafter, adjourned the matter until June 19, for hearing.
