Media professional advises girls, women to take advantage of FG’s education funds

The Chief Executive Officer of Women Radio 91.7, Toun Okewale-Sonaiya, has urged girls and women to take advantage of the Nigerian Education Loan Funds (NELFUND) to get educated and gain financial dependence.
Ms Okewale-Sonaiya gave the advice on Tuesday during an interview to commemorate the 2025 International Women’s Day in Abuja.
She said female students, mothers, and guardians of female wards should take advantage of the NELFUND to get educated and gain financial dependence.
She stated, “Every Nigerian mother and guardian should please take advantage of the funds provided by President Bola Tinubu’s government to empower your daughter, your grandmother, your niece, even yourself and every girl. This is what we can do to accelerate action for women and girls in Nigeria to grow and make an impact in society.
“Education is a catalyst that would drive Nigeria’s economic growth and development. Education is not just about individual empowerment but to transform Nigeria.
This is because when women and girls are educated, they will participate in the economy, take up leadership roles and contribute to their communities.”
According to her, the NELFUND initiative is a ground-breaking initiative that empowers women and girls through education and development.
“By providing funding and support for Nigerian students’ education, NELFUND is bridging the gap between potential and opportunities for Nigerian students, especially women and girls.”
She said that Women Radio 91.7 would continue to amplify women’s voices in the country and champion their rights to ensure that every girl was accepted and every woman thrives without fears, bias, or limitations.
NELFUND had during its 2025 budget defence announced the disbursement of N116.184 billion for the welfare of students across 176,252 beneficiary institutions in the country as of January.
