Todd Blanche, the lawyer of ex-U.S. president Donald Trump has called his client’s former fixer and the prosecutor’s star witness Michael Cohen the ‘greatest liar of all time’ (GLOAT) during closing arguments at the politician’s ongoing hush money criminal trial in New York.

Mr Trump has been at a Manhattan court for the past few weeks where he is currently being charged with 34 felony counts by the New York Attorney General office for paying over $130,000 in hush money payment to ex-pornstar Stormy Daniels in the eve of the 2016 election to keep the affair a secret.

The payment was made to Ms Daniels by Mr Cohen at the behest of Mr Trump, who later reimbursed Mr Cohen the money which consequently served as the primary basis connecting the former president to the crime. Mr Cohen had served jail terms for the crime.

Speaking to the 12 members of the jury, who will decide Mr Trump fate as he became the first U.S. president to face criminal prosecution, during the closing arguments of the trial on Tuesday, Mr Blanche spent time attacking Mr Cohen’s credibility, calling him the ‘greatest liar of all time.’

Following closing arguments, the jurors begin deliberations in the early hours of Wednesday after receiving instructions from Judge Juan Merchan on specific details regarding the case. Both the defence and the prosecution will now wait for the jury to return with a decision.
