Tinubu sworn in as Nigeria’s 16th president, Buhari bows out

Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress has been sworn in as Nigeria’s 16th president.
Chief Justice of Nigeria, Olukayode Ariwoola, administered the oath of office on Mr Tinubu at Eagle Square in Abuja on Monday (May 29, 2023).
“I, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, do solemnly swear that I will not allow my personal interests to influence my official conduct or decisions… So help me, God,” Mr Tinubu said while taking the oath of office.
Mr Tinubu, 71, succeeded former President Muhammadu Buhari, whose two terms of eight years elapsed on May 29.
Mr Tinubu was on March 1 declared the winner of the February 25 presidential election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
