Tinubu: Peter Obi’s lawyers fall sick, beg tribunal for adjournment

Peter Obi’s lawyers have begged the presidential election petitions tribunal to adjourn the hearing on the electoral suit filed against President Bola Tinubu’s victory at the February 25 poll.
Mr Obi is challenging the victory of Mr Tinubu in court. Both were ex-governors in Anambra and Lagos, respectively. Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar is also contesting the emergence of Mr Tinubu as president.
Awa Kalu, lead counsel in Mr Obi’s petition against Mr Tinubu, requested the court to adjourn the case until June 1 due to the illness of two lawyers on his team.
A.B. Mahmoud, representing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Wole Olanipekun (representing Mr Tinubu) and L.O. Fagbemi (representing APC) did not object to the application.
However, Mr Mahmoud told the court that Tuesday’s hearing should be counted among the days allocated to Mr Obi and the Labour Party to argue their case irrespective of the adjournment.
Justice Haruna Simon Tsammani accepted the plea and adjourned the case until June 1.
