A 36-year-old man, Sule Sunday, was on Friday arraigned in the Karu Magistrates Court in Abuja for allegedly assaulting his landlady.

The defendant, who resides at Orozo, is facing a count charge of assault, an offence he denied committing.

The prosecution counsel, Olarewaju Osho, told the court that a written petition was received at the office of Karu Area Commander on January 22.

According to the complaint, it was alleged that on December 27, the defendant assaulted Gloria Ene, who happened to be his landlady, without any provocation.

Mr Osho said the offence contravened section 265 of the Penal Code.

The magistrate, Ngozi Okonkwo, granted the defendant N500,000 bail with one surety in like sum.

Ms Okonkwo adjourned the case until February 20 for a hearing.
