The Lagos state government has reaffirmed its commitment to leveraging its tourism potential and population to attract investment and place the state on the global map.

Idris Aregbe, special adviser to Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu on tourism, arts and culture, stated this during an executive tour of the John Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History, Onikan.

“Our museum is extensive. What sets it apart is our focus on telling our own story and creating experiences that bring people together.

“This is our role as a government—to showcase the beauty of our city.

“Today, we have brought in various stakeholders to spread the good news about Lagos. We mean business, and I am pleased we have a governor passionate about tourism,” he said.

During the tour, Mr Aregbe and local and foreign travel enthusiasts acknowledged Lagos state’s rich cultural heritage.

“This is an unforgettable experience. Experiencing our culture in a relaxed and comfortable setting will attract foreign investors and partnerships with Lagos,” Mr Aregbe said.

He emphasised that tourism and entertainment should not be limited to ‘Detty December’ but should be a year-round initiative.

Some tourists, including Nneka Isaac-Moses, managing director of the popular African cultural show Goge Africa, praised the state government for the museum’s ambience and rich collection of artefacts.

“These artefacts represent the past, present, and future, with AI-generated videos enhancing the experience. The John Randle Centre will also create an economic value chain,” she said.

Dignitaries on the tour included representatives of the Oba of Lagos and veteran Yoruba actor, Jide Kosoko.

Others included students from Eko Akete Junior and Senior High Schools. Guests also enjoyed cultural performances, traditional food, and drinks.
