Teachers indispensable for human capital development, TRCN says

The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) has described teachers as an indispensable tool in human capital development.
TRCN registrar, Josiah Ajiboye, stated this on Thursday, at the seventh induction ceremony of 1,025 new teachers who graduated from Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe, Anambra.
While administering the oath, Mr Ajiboye, represented by TRCN acting director of professional operations, Abimbola Ahmed, said the induction was a condition for professional practice.
He also said the event was the legal basis of admission into the teaching profession and to regulate and control the profession as stipulated by the TRCN Decree N0. 31 of 1993 (now TRCN Act CAP T3 of 2004).
“Teachers can be described as an indispensable tool in human capital development of any nation. They are essential players in promoting quality education. They are advocates for and catalysts of change,” said the TRCN boss. “While education is a means to a better life and uplifts the society, teachers, being the major operator of the system, have a lot of responsibilities thrust upon them.”
He urged the new teachers to always strive to improve their knowledge, especially on ICT, to positively impact their students in the present world where digital literacy rules.
Also, Ifeyinwa Osegbo, the college’s provost, congratulated the graduands for proving themselves worthy in character and learning as required by the college.
She urged them to work within the teaching profession’s ethics and always uphold high standards.
Speaking on behalf of the new inductees, Afoma Nwachukwu pledged the graduands would be good ambassadors of the college and carry out their work professionally.
