Soldiers open fire, kill Taraba security officer in Election Day violence

Soldiers at the checkpoint in Anguwan karofi, along CBN bye pass in Taraba State, on Saturday, killed a yet-to-be-identified man over an alleged face-off.
Channels Television quoted a witness as saying that an argument ensued between the man reported as a vigilante member and officers over movement on the axis.
However, the matter was said to have escalated, which led to the shooting of the man to death.
The state police spokesperson, Abdullahi Usman, who confirmed the incident, said efforts were ongoing to ascertain what transpired between the deceased and the military personnel.
However, the commander of the vigilante in the Jalingo Local Government Area, Munir Bello, who also confirmed the incident, said he was yet to verify the deceased’s identity.
“We have sent men to the Federal Medical Centre to identify the body of the said person, and we are yet to receive any report.
“As you know, we have many members, and I cannot just ascertain without proper verification. But indeed, a person was shot to death this morning by soldiers at Anguwan karofi, CBN road ATC bye pass,” he said.
The spokesperson for the Nigerian Army, Onyema Nwachukwu, did not immediately return Peoples Gazette’s request seeking comment about the incident.
