Senate confirms Bala Bello AMCOM part-time chairman

The Senate on Wednesday confirmed the nomination of Bala Bello, representing North-East, as part-time chairman of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON).
Also confirmed were five other nominees for appointment as non-executive directors of AMCON.
Their confirmation followed the presentation and adoption of the report of the Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions at plenary.
The nominees confirmed as non-executive directors include Yusuf Sule, representing North Central; Adeyemo Stephen, representing South-West; and Yahaya Ibrahim, representing North-West.
Others are Odion Iyare, representing the South-South, and Emily Osuji, representing the South-East.
Earlier, while presenting the report of the committee for consideration, Osita Izunaso (APC-Imo State), on behalf of the committee chairman, said the committee recommended that the Senate should confirm their appointment.
Mr Izunaso said this followed a robust engagement with the nominees and being satisfied with their experiences, performances and academic qualifications.
He added that there was no petition against the nominees, having been cleared by the security agencies, the police and the State Security Services.
President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, after the confirmation, thanked the committee members for the screening of the nominees.
He expressed hope that the new managers of AMCON would bring a new vigour in the discharge of their duties.
