Search underway for child swept away by river in Yobe

Two children were swept away by a river in Dapchi community, Bursari Local Government Area of Yobe State on Sunday.
In a statement on Sunday by the agency’s director of search and rescue operation, Ibrahim Jalo, the incident occurred at about 2:30 p.m. at Unguwar Bulama Alhaji Ahmadu in Dapchi.
He stated that state and LGA search and rescue teams, together with divers, immediately launched operations.
“Two children were swept away by a river in Unguwar Bulama Alhaji Ahmadu, Dapchi Community, Bursari Local Government Area.
“As of 5:00 p.m, one of the children (Goni Mustapha), 14 years old, has been successfully recovered. Search efforts for the second child are ongoing,” he said.
He stated that updates would be provided as more information becomes available.
The agency urged residents, particularly parents and guardians, to keep children away from rivers and other water bodies, especially during the rainy season.
