Rigging: DOJ to monitor U.S. midterm elections in all 50 states for first time
The Department of Justice (DOJ) has announced that election monitors will be deployed to ensure free and fair elections and protect U.S. citizens’ right to vote.
The announcement was made on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
The deployment is significant because it represents the largest election-monitoring exercise in the Department of Justice’s history, aimed at protecting voting rights.
Approximately 1,000 election monitors and observers will be deployed across all 50 states.
Historically, the DOJ has concentrated its election monitoring in selected states and local jurisdictions with specific concerns rather than deploying monitors across the entire country at once.
The monitors will include personnel from the Civil Rights Division, other DOJ divisions and components, U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and federal observers from the Office of Personnel Management.
Assistant Attorney General Harmeet K. Dhillon of the Civil Rights Division at the Department of Justice said, “Election integrity has been one of the top priorities for this administration and this division,” hence the deployment of the largest number of election monitors.
The DOJ election monitors will check whether election officials comply with federal laws protecting Americans’ voting rights.
The Department of Justice has ensured that the Division’s Disability Rights Section enforces the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which gives people with disabilities a full and equal opportunity to vote.
This will also prevent any form of voter intimidation and suppression based on race, colour, national origin, or religion.
Division personnel will be available throughout the week to receive questions and complaints from the public regarding federal voting-rights laws.
