President Samia Hassan sacks Tanzania’s electricity board over frequent power outage

President Samia Suluhu Hassan has sacked the board of Tanzania Electric Supply Company (Tanesco) amid a public outcry on poor power supply in the country.
According to a report on Thursday, the Tanzanian president’s decision was informed by “frequent power outages that have outraged Tanzanians.”
The outages resulted from power rationing in Tanzania due to reduced water levels in dams and continued repair of power lines, resulting in a 400-megawatt shortfall.
Ms Hassan later moved some of the board members to other government agencies.
