Polish zoo threatened by floods appeals for help filling sandbags

The zoo in the western Polish city of Wrocław has appealed for help ahead of an expected flood wave on the Oder river, which forecasters say will reach the city.
“Dear friends, we need your help. If you have the opportunity and free hands to work, please help us fill sand into bags,” the zoo directorate wrote on Facebook on Tuesday.
It said it was looking for 50 volunteers for the sandbagging effort.
Just a short time later, it added that enough people had already been found for the job.
There is major flooding in many places in south-west Poland after persistent heavy rainfall.
According to the latest forecasts, the flood wave in the Oder is expected to reach Wroclaw on Thursday or Friday.
Founded in 1864, the Wrocław Zoological Garden is one of the largest in Poland and is home to 12,000 species of animal.
The site is located directly on the Oder.
