Police uncover kidnappers den in Ondo, arrests suspects with charms, axes, gun

Police in Ondo State have discovered a dungeon used by some suspected kidnappers in Epinmi Akoko in Akoko South-East Local Government Area of the state.
Wilfred Afolabi, the commissioner of police in the state, who disclosed this on Thursday, said the dungeon, which served as the ‘kidnappers den’, was uncovered right inside an abandoned building located inside the bush of the community.
According to Mr Afolabi, the shocking discovery led to the arrest of two suspects, Idowu Arohunmolase (25) and Tosin Bada (26), following an intel provided by a group of vigilant.
He explained that after the intel, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Isua Akoko swung into action and promptly mobilised officers and personnel from sister security agencies to uncovered the den.
“The suspects subsequently led the operatives to a secluded building in the bush. A particularly disturbing discovery was a deep pit located inside the building, strongly suspected to have been used to confine kidnapped victims,” Mr Afolabi said.
He highlighted items recovered after the search on the building to include two locally-made dane guns, assorted charms, four cutlasses, four axes, and other dangerous weapons.
He, however, added that the suspects and recovered exhibits have been transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for discreet investigation.
“Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses,” he added.
The latest arrests came after heads of security agencies in the state claimed that most kidnapping cases were linked with local indigenes providing information and serving as informants for armed bandits.
Ondo has been in the spotlight with the resurgence of kidnapping, attacks, and killings suspected by bandits hidden inside the forest reserves to perpetrate their crime.
