Police, NSCDC destroy camp of criminal gang in Anambra

The police in Anambra and some security operatives have destroyed a camp suspected to be the abode of criminals in Nimo, Njikoka Local Government Area of the state.
Tochukwu Ikenga, a superintendent of police and the command’s spokesman, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Awka, the state capital.
Mr Ikenga said the operation was carried out in the early hours of Tuesday in collaboration with the NSCDC and members of a vigilance group.
He said the operation resulted in the destruction of several makeshift structures within the camp and the recovery of 19 unexploded improvised explosive devices.
Mr Ikenga said the security operatives also inflicted significant injuries on fleeing suspects.
He quoted the Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Itam, as urging proprietors of private and public hospitals to report anyone with bullet wounds to the nearest police station.
” This measure is critical to the ongoing effort to apprehend fleeing suspects and prevent further criminal activity,” he added.
The police spokesman said the operation followed credible intelligence on the activities of the suspected criminal gang.
According to him, information was also obtained during the interrogation of suspects arrested in ongoing police operations across the state.
He commended the synergy between the security agencies and vigilante groups.
