Over 30 suspected bandits killed in gun battle in Zamfara

The police command in Zamfara State says it foiled a bandit attack in Bukkuyum Local Government Area of the state, killing more than 30 suspected bandits during a fierce gun battle.
This was disclosed on Saturday in a statement by Yazid Abubakar, the command’s spokesman.
He stated that the operation was carried out on Wednesday in collaboration with local civil security personnel in the state.
“The operation commenced on 28th October 2026, following an attempted attack by armed bandits on Bukuyum town.
“However, security operatives promptly engaged the assailants in a fierce exchange of gunfire, successfully repelling the attack and preventing the bandits from advancing into the town,” he said.
He said the security operatives demonstrated courage, professionalism and determination during the confrontation, defending the town and protecting residents despite being outgunned by the armed bandits.
“Following the engagement, more than thirty (30) bodies believed to be those of neutralised bandits were reportedly discovered in surrounding farmlands,” Mr Abubakar said.
The police said the attackers might have sustained significant casualties during the confrontation.
According to him, the armed bandits were known to evacuate their casualties from battle locations, adding that the actual number of casualties remained subject to further verification by the authorities.
The police said security operatives successfully prevented the assailants from gaining access to Bukkuyum town, thereby averting potential loss of lives, destruction of property and further displacement of innocent residents.
