2027: Don’t claim victory if you fail to deliver your polling unit, Wike tells APC supporters

Mr Wike warned that individual accountability at the local level would be the sole measure of political relevance.

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike has directed supporters of President Bola Tinubu in Abuja to deliver their polling units in the forthcoming 2027 general elections.

Mr Wike gave the directive in Abuja on Saturday, during an event organised by the FCT Stakeholders Assembly to endorse Mr Tinubu.

The stakeholders also endorsed Philip Aduda to represent the FCT in the Senate, John Gabaya for AMAC/Buari Federal Constituency, and Danladi Chiya for Abuja South Federal Constituency.

Addressing the crowd, Mr Wike framed the upcoming general elections as a critical opportunity for residents of the nation’s capital to rectify past electoral missteps and unite under a strategic development banner.

Under the directive tagged “Operation Deliver Your Polling Unit”, the minister warned that individual accountability at the local level would be the sole measure of political relevance.

“Deliver your polling unit, deliver your ward, deliver your local government. I don’t want to hear ‘I lost my polling unit, but we won.’ There is no grammar like that.

“If you lose your polling unit, don’t tell me you won, because you never contributed to the victory,” he said.

Targeting current political representation in the National Assembly, Mr Wike questioned incumbents’ accessibility and performance, urging voters to back candidates with strong records of community engagement.

Mr Wike praised Mr Aduda as a trusted figure possessing “the signature to protect” the residents of the FCT if elected to the Senate.

Highlighting administrative achievements recorded under Mr Tinubu’s administration, Mr Wike announced several structural reforms and incentives designed to strengthen local governance and traditional institutions in the territory.

He said Mr Tinubu has elevated FCT traditional institutions, announcing that official SUV vehicles would be distributed to royal fathers before December in recognition of their role in maintaining peace.

On the Rainbow Coalition, the minister said the arrangement was designed to unite political parties behind Tinubu without compelling them to abandon their political identities.

He commended the FCT chairs of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for supporting the initiative, describing it as an opportunity to promote political cooperation beyond party affiliations.

Mr Wike said the coalition was driven by the need for unity and inclusive development rather than narrow partisan interests.

Earlier, Aliyu Kwali, president of the FCT Stakeholders Assembly, explained that the rally was organised in appreciation of rapid infrastructure development across the territory’s six area councils under Mr Wike’s leadership.

He cited newly commissioned infrastructure—including critical bypass routes connecting Gude to Kwali and Abaji.

“We have come here to tell the whole world that come January 16, 2027, we shall deliver one million votes for Tinubu,” he said.

Also speaking, the Renewed Hope Ambassador Coordinator in FCT, Abdullahi Candido, described Mr Wike’s appointment as FCT minister as a blessing to Abuja, saying, “The Tinubu administration has brought democratic dividends and government closer to the people.”

Mr Candido pledged the Renewed Hope movement’s support for Mr Tinubu and said the APC would win the 2027 general elections.
