Otu inaugurates 120 remodelled stalls in Calabar market

Cross River’s first lady, Enyoanwan Otu, has inaugurated 120 remodelled stalls at the popular Akim Market in Calabar.
The structure was inaugurated on Tuesday in Calabar as part of events marking the 60th birthday of the governor’s wife.
The governor’s wife explained that remodelling the stalls was in line with her husband’s ‘People First’ mantra.
She said the new market stalls would enhance the trading environment, thereby making life easier for the residents of Calabar using the market.
“By revitalising and modernising these market structures, we aim not only to enhance the trading environment but also to alleviate the challenges faced by market users and sellers.
“The significance of this structure reflects our commitment to ensuring that our markets meet the needs of a modern society while preserving the vibrancy and vitality of our economic and cultural heritage.
“The remodelled Akim Market structures have been designed with the utmost consideration for functionality, safety, and convenience, thereby creating a conducive environment for commerce and trade to thrive,” she said.
Ndidem Eta Bassey Eteta (III), the paramount ruler of Calabar Municipality, said the remodelled stalls were welcomed development.
“This will not be forgotten in a hurry, on behalf of the Akim community and Calabar Municipality, I want to say thank you,” he said.
Commissioner for Local Government Affairs Felix Idem lauded the governor’s wife for the gesture.
Mr Idem said the governor’s wife had shown genuine love for the people of the Akim community.
