Osun: Many civil servants fail to resume work after festive celebrations

There was a noticeable low turnout of workers in Osogbo, Osun, on Thursday as work resumed after Christmas and Boxing Day celebrations.
At the state secretariat and other government offices, some workers were yet to resume duties.
At the Osun State Secretariat, Abere, it was observed that some were yet to report at their duty posts.
Similarly, at the Osun House of Assembly, some offices were not opened, as the majority of staff were observed not to be around.
A visit to Olorunda Local Government Secretariat, Osogbo, also showed the absence of many workers, as some offices were still under lock.
Most officers and workers at the federal establishments in Osogbo were equally not at their duty posts, as only essential workers were visible.
An employee of the Osun State Assembly, Kazeem Ayofe, said that the majority of workers of the assembly would only be resuming on Monday because the assembly was on recess.
He said, “Those that have travelled for the Christmas and New Year celebrations will probably return on Monday because the assembly is already on break. Only the senior officers and those on essential duties will mostly be coming to the office and working until the House of Assembly resumes in February.’’
Esther Ogundele,
Also, a federal government worker, Esther Ogundele, said some workers that travelled for the holidays, who are not on essential beats or duty, would probably be resuming on Monday.
She said, “Some workers usually make arrangements with their colleagues, especially their colleagues who will not be travelling, to cover for them when they are away. I think because of the proximity of resumption to the weekend, those that are to resume today will probably defer till Friday or Monday as many will start coming back from today.’’
