The crisis rocking the Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party deepened on Thursday following the resignation of the party’s Publicity Secretary, Ayo Fadaka.

Mr Fadaka announced his resignation in a letter submitted to the chairman of Ward 8, Oke Aro, in the Akure South Local Government Area of the State.

In a copy of the letter addressed to the party’s state chairman and national vice chairman (South-West), Mr Fadaka said his decision to leave the party was not taken lightly but was necessitated by what he described as persistent “internal crises” threatening the survival of the PDP.

“I am writing to notify you of my decision to resign from the Peoples Democratic Party forthwith,” the PDP chieftain stated.

According to him, the PDP had become a victim of individuals who rose to prominence through the party but later turned against it.

“The PDP is a victim of ill-bred individuals who unfortunately rose to very lofty heights through it and eventually turned around to stab it mercilessly,” he said.

Mr Fadaka further accused some party leaders in the state of lacking integrity and using the PDP purely for personal gain.

He stated, “Aside from this, another thriving group of rent-seeking and privilege-taking individuals, to whom the party remains a meal ticket and who are ever ready, without conscience, to compromise its interest.”

He lamented that the party’s leadership now treats the PDP as a disposable platform, describing it as “a taxi cab that, upon taking them to their desired destination, can be discarded.”

Mr Fadaka added that he had come to realise that his commitment to the party was no longer sustainable under the prevailing circumstances.

“In view of the above, I have since realised that my seemingly irrevocable commitment to the party can, after all, be revoked. Therefore, my membership of the PDP is hereby terminated. I wish the party well,” he said.

Mr Fadaka’s resignation is the latest in a series of developments highlighting the deepening internal wrangling within the PDP in the state.

Last year, the opposition party’s Director of Media and Publicity, Leye Igbabo, dumped the party.

Mr Igbabo’s exit from the party came after Modupe Aisida’s election as its new state chairman, alongside other executive members, at a congress held in Akure, the state capital.
