Oil Theft: NSCDC destroys illegal refinery, arrests three in Rivers

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested three suspects at an illegal oil refinery in Rivers.
In a statement on Monday, the corps spokesperson, Babawale Afolabi, said the illegal bunkering site was located at Nembe/Odagwa Creek in the state’s Etche LGA.
He explained that a large dug-out reservoir constructed and padded with tarpaulin, which could contain 100,000 litres of illegally refined crude oil, was uncovered at the site.
Mr Afolabi also said the suspects were currently providing all necessary information and would be charged to court after a thorough investigation.
”Upon sighting our operatives, some of the suspects abandoned the illegal bunkering site and took to their heels, manoeuvring through the creek,” he said.
He commended some citizens who had constantly provided information to the corps and encouraged them to continue providing actionable intelligence that would lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.
”Our commitment to rid the nation of all acts of economic sabotage in the oil region remains firm, and we will not be deterred.
