Ogun: Customs hands over 3,365 parcels of seized cannabis to NDLEA

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun 1 Area Command, handed over 3,365 parcels of cannabis sativa to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Thursday.
The area comptroller, Mohammed Shuaibu, handed the drugs to Alex Nnyigide, deputy state commander of operations and training at NDLEA in Abeokuta.
Mr Shuaibu said the command also handed over 88 cartons of codeine cough syrup and illicit drugs to the NDLEA for proper disposal and further investigation.
“The items being handed over reflected the ongoing efforts of the command to curb the distribution of illegal narcotics within the country, which posed significant threats to the health and safety of our citizens.
“These actions send a clear and unequivocal message to those who engage in illegal activities, as our operatives will continue to carry out their statutory responsibilities with dedication, ensuring that such enterprises do not thrive in our area of responsibility,” Mr Shuaibu said.
Responding, Mr Nnyigide, who represented the state commander of NDLEA, Tijani Rabe, applauded the Ogun 1 Area Command for the seizure that could have led to disaster in society.
He reiterated the NDLEA’s commitment to continue collaborating with the customs and other sister agencies towards the fight against the smuggling of drugs in the state.
