NTI director seeks diversification of sources for funding education

Sadiya Sani-Daura, the director of the National Teachers’ Institute in Kaduna, has advocated the diversification of the sources of funding education in Nigeria.
“There is indeed the urgent need to diversify the sources of funding education in Nigeria,” she said on Saturday in Kaduna.
According to her, other critical stakeholders in the country’s education sector must also be fully committed to it.
Ms Sani-Daura said, “It isn’t the government alone that should fund education. In fact, even the teachers themselves have a critical role to play in terms of improvisation.
“There are so many things they can do once you are committed and when you have passion for what you do.”
The NTI boss further underscored the nexus between education and other sectors of the nation’s economy in multifaceted ways.
She added, “We all know that we can use education to turn around the fortunes of the country.
“This is in so many areas like security, health, environment and the economy itself, among others.”
Ms Sani-Daura reiterated the unwavering commitment of the institute to train more Nigerian teachers to make them truly competitive and world-class.
“We will sustain our various forms of training with a view to bolstering the capacities of the teachers.
“In line with our mandate, we will expand the centres of training to capture more teachers across the country,” Ms Sani-Daura promised.
