The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kano State Command, has deployed personnel to ensure effective traffic management throughout the state’s festive season.

Sector commander Umar Matazu disclosed this in a statement issued by command spokesman Abdullahi Labaran on Sunday in Kano.

Officials said the command deployed five ambulances, 25 patrol vehicles, and one heavy-duty towing truck, among other operational equipment.

“The operation is to clear obstructions on highways in the state, with a target of zero fatality during the celebration.

“This year’s end-of-the-year and new-year special patrol operation is tagged: “Operation Zero Tolerance to Road Traffic Crashes”, and it is aimed at ensuring safe road use throughout the festive season

“The special patrol operations will run from December 15, 2024 to January 15, 2025”, the statement said.

The statement said eight units, outposts, zebras and roadside clinics along Kano-Zaria road would work round the clock to ensure the safety of lives and properties on the highway.

“All station officers in the 44 local government areas of the state are fully involved in the operations.

“Out of the 1,539 personnel, 1,303 regular marshals and 236 special marshals were deployed on six major routes to ensure safe and smooth vehicular movement, traffic control as well as prompt attention to victims of road traffic crash during the period,” the statement said.

According to the statement, the sector commander called on road users to prioritize safety by adhering to traffic regulations and avoiding reckless behaviours that jeopardise lives.

While wishing road users a joyous Christmas, Mr Matazu advises motorists to plan their journeys, avoid night travels, and report emergencies to the FRSC toll-free line 122 or visit the nearest FRSC office for assistance.
