The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has apprehended three suspects specialised in stealing and tampering with prepaid metres in various parts of Ondo.

The trio, Oladele Kole, 42, Alimi Oluwasola, 39, and Samuel Olumide, 52, were all arrested at Oda Road Area of Akure, Ondo capital city.

Daniel Aidamenbor, a spokesperson for the NSCDC, disclosed the arrest of the suspects on Thursday.

Mr Aidamenbor explained that the three suspects were in the criminal habit of selling stolen prepaid metres belonging to the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) to unsuspecting members of the public.

He said the suspects were nabbed following a sustained intelligence and the flagging of some reported stolen prepaid meters by BEDC in the state.

“One of the flagged stolen meters was recovered at the point of recharging it by the buyer,” he said in a short statement obtained by Peoples Gazette.

According to him, two members of the syndicate are presently at large but effort is on to apprehend them.

He added that the arrested suspects already made confessional statements and would be charged in court after the completion of the investigation.
