No survivors yet in Ondo military helicopter crash, says Gov. Aiyedatiwa
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State says no single life has been rescued or saved from the army helicopter crash that happened earlier in the Igbokoda area of the state.
“From the information we have got, no single life was saved up to this moment,” Mr Aiyedatiwa said.
He added, “They could not see any living soul in that aircraft. But they saw some wreckage from the wings of the aircraft and ID cards and uniforms. That’s how they knew it was a military aircraft.”
Mr Aiyedatiwa said he got the information about the crash at about 10:30 a.m. on Monday after the helicopter crashed.
Shortly after Peoples Gazette reported the crash, Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo confirmed that it involved a military helicopter with 32 persons on board.
“Preliminary information suggests that there were 25 passengers and seven crew members on board,” Mr Keyamo said.
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) also confirmed in a statement that “The aircraft was on a routine mission from Benin to Lagos when the accident occurred.”
