Nine dead after Ukrainian army attacked homes in Russian community: Official

It was believed that the Ukrainian armed forces used artillery weapons during the attacks.

Nine residents of the Kursk Region village of Makhnovka died after Ukrainian armed forces shelled their homes, Russian Investigative Committee spokeswoman Svetlana Petrenko said on Thursday.

Ms Petrenko stated, “During the investigation of the criminal case of a terrorist attack, officers of the Investigative Committee of Russia found the bodies of nine civilians with signs of violent death in residential buildings in the surrounding area during an inspection of the private residential sector of the village of Makhnovka, Sudzhansky district, Kursk Region.’’

As the investigation found, no later than March 2025, Ukrainian servicepeople purposefully shelled residential buildings in the village of Makhnovka.

A total of nine civilians died as a result of the crime.

Also, during the inspection of residential buildings, destruction was recorded, indicating the use of artillery weapons by the Ukrainian armed forces.

In addition, gunshot wounds were found on six bodies, and it has already been established that one of the victims is an elderly woman who was shot in the head.

The official said, “Investigative actions aimed at identifying the victims are being carried out, the necessary forensic examinations have been appointed, and witnesses are being questioned.’’

Ms Petrenko said that during the preliminary investigation, representatives of the armed formations of Ukraine involved in this crime would be identified and brought to justice.
