The Sokoto State House of Assembly has adopted a motion for the construction of a 12-kilometre access road linking Bodinga and Yabo Local Government Areas in the state.

The development followed a joint motion moved by the Speaker, Tukur Bala (APC – Bodinga South), and Abubakar Shehu (APC – Yabo), as seconded by Awaisu Aliyu (PDP – Gada West), during Thursday’s plenary session.

While presenting the motion, Mr Shehu emphasised the importance of road construction and rehabilitation in alleviating the suffering of the people.

He stated, “Thus, the necessity of constructing the proposed 12km road that begins from Gidan Gabas, linking Rinaye, Danabarbare, and Tandarawa in Bodinga, to Kamfatare in Yabo cannot be overemphasised.’’

The lawmaker stated that the road would significantly enhance agricultural activities in the surrounding farming communities.

He stated, “This, in turn, will boost the state’s commercial activities, as most inhabitants in these areas engage in both rainy and dry season farming.’’

Mr Shehu also highlighted the project as a step towards fulfilling one of the ‘Nine-point Smart Agenda’ of Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s administration.

According to him, the road will not only ease the transportation of goods and services but also improve access to healthcare by facilitating the movement of patients from the rural areas to the urban medical centres.

Several lawmakers who contributed to the debate described the proposal as timely and aligned with the government’s commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy to the people.

Presiding over the session, the Deputy Speaker, Kabiru Ibrahim (APC – Kware), put the motion to a voice vote, and it was unanimously adopted by the house.
