Nigeria’s power grid has collapsed again for the second time in less than 24 hours, resulting in a nationwide outage.

On Monday, the power grid collapsed in the evening, frustrating domestic and business activities across the nation. Epileptic electricity supply is perennial in Nigeria despite several billions of naira pumped into the energy industry.

However, less than 24 hours after the grid first collapsed on Monday, Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) confirmed in a statement on Tuesday that another system collapsed.

“Dear Valued Customer, Kindly be informed there was a system collapse at 09:17 hrs, which has resulted in a loss of power supply across our network.

“We are currently working with our partners as we hope for speedy restoration of the grid. We will keep you updated as soon as power supply is restored,” the electricity firm said.

Earlier, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) said power outages experienced by Nigerians Monday evening were restored to some of its franchise areas.

Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, is the seat of power in Nigeria. The country has experienced multiple national power grid collapses since President Bola Tinubu assumed office on May 29, 2023.

Checks revealed that places like Deidei, Suleja, Lugbe, Kuje and other areas have their light restored on Tuesday at about 5:15 a.m.

Customers in the AEDC were told of the disruption in supply, which was attributed to the collapse of the National grid.

In a statement on its Twitter handle on Monday, the company said that the system collapse occurred at about 6.58 p.m.

”Be rest assured that we are working with relevant stakeholders to restore power as soon the grid stabilises,” it said.
